Worthington Area Art League 1/22/18

Hello, A few things have popped into my inbox to share.

Remember, if you have something to share (workshop, exhibit, awards, or just fun stuff about art) simply send me an email with the information. Plain text is best. If there are images make sure they are jpeg and are sized for web use. If you have a text document pdf is best. Sometimes what you have to share is from another website. In that case send a brief description along with the URL the points to all the gory detail.

My goal is simply to cut and paste what you send. And I admit, I do not always read everything you send me so if you have a typo in it good chance everyone will see the typo. If it is obvious to me I will fix if it’s not obvious to me – – – it will be shared as is.

So, hope you are enjoying the color brown of the January thaw. Next announcement 2/2

Frederick Fochtman is an art restorer, painting instructor and award winning oil painter from Columbus, Ohio. As a painter, Fred works from direct observation and paints exclusively from life. An integral part of his process is the relationship with the subject as it faces the challenges created by shifting light, weather and time. Fred’s painting subjects include landscape, still life, figurative and interior. The palette and mark making choices are responsive to each individual painting experience. Although Fred often works in the all prima style, many of his paintings require multiple sittings in order to achieve the desired result.
As a painter, Fred travels annually to Vermont and the Atlantic coast in order to create work in the plein air style. Additionally, he paints landscapes locally and throughout Ohio with some attention toward urban subjects. His figure work is created in the studio in collaboration with other painters. Interiors and still lifes are produced in a variety of locales including his restoration studio and the Clintonville bungalow he shares with his wife. Fred feels it is essential to keep an open mind as it relates to painting styles and methods because in his experiences some of his most satisfying work is born out of exploration and risk taking.
As an art restorer for the last ten years, Fred and his work partner have restored paintings for museums, governmental clients, colleges and universities, corporations, galleries and private collections in Ohio and throughout the country. He finds the work very satisfying and feels fortunate that he is able to spend his days in such a rewarding pursuit.
Fred is represented by The Sharon Weiss Gallery located in the Short North District, 20 East Lincoln Street, 43215.

>>>> Community Venues for February

Dear WAAL members,
I want to thank so many of you who signed up to place your art in community venues this month. Next month there are still a few openings that might be of interest to you. I currently have my watercolors at the Worthington Rec. Center and today a lady emailed me requesting to buy a painting that she really liked. As you know when you display your art you should have contact information posted near your wall hangings. It would also be nice to indicate that you are a member of the Worthington Area Art League and the website for WAAL where people can find out more about our group. In the future perhaps we will have a publicity piece you can use with your art display. Please email me if you want to display in FEB, we have three locations to fill. Then I’m March we also have three. April we have four locations open and May we have three open. In addition, the Quest Conference Center up in Lewis Center is also available. Hope to see you at our meeting next week.

>>>> Call for artists to exhibit work

I coordinate art exhibits at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Upper Arlington. I’m currently looking for 2-D artists who have 10—12 medium pieces, or 8-9 large pieces to exhibit, starting early February, 2018. The art committee types all the labels and artist info, and installs the exhibit. All the artiist needs to do is furnish the label and Artist Bio/Statement info, and deliver the works to the church. The exhibits usually hang for 2 months. The church has a Walker hanging system. The exhibits are in the lounge where there are many meeting, so artworks receive a lot of exposure. The congregation appreciates these exhibits very much; artists occasionally sell their work at Covenant exhibits. If interested, contact Jeanie Auseon, 614-329-4810, or email at auseonja@mac.com <mailto:auseonja@mac.com>.

Fellow Artists,

Hope all is well. I want to know if any of you are interested in

9pm. This will be uninstructed. My studio can accomodate 10 to 12
artists. Cost will be $10 per person. Please let me know if any of you
are interested. Id like to get this started in the next week or two.

Also, I am offering a mini-color workshop. Not everyone needs this,
but I am hoping there will be artists who can benefit for this type of
workshop. I am attaching a flyer with dates, time, cost and content.
Hope some of you will join me.
