Speaker – Sue Cavanaugh

First known as a 2-d textile artist, Sue Cavanaugh’s art has evolved to include installations and art with political and environmental messages.  She often uses repurposed sheers and parachutes that she hand stitches and gathers. Her installation “SOS to the Universe” (Riffe Gallery, Expanded Dimensions exhibit, November 5, 2020-January 9, 2021) addresses concerns with global warming and plastics in the oceans. “It Is What It Is” ( (Not) Sheep Gallery, October-November 2020) uses over 5000 paper dolls to memorialize those who have died of Covid-19 in Ohio.  She has satirized corporate personhood in cloth sculptures, limited edition linoprints and a book of cartoons (“A Corporation Is a Person Like the Emperor’s New Clothes Were Real”, amazon.com).  She’s the past recipient of Individual Artist Awards from GCAC and OAC and a Dresden residency.
