# Worthington Area Art League – announcement 4/5/19 #
Hello WAAL members
Here are the announcements! If you have something to share with your colleagues in the art league send them to this address. Plan for them to arrive a couple days before the announced next mailing. Please keep the announcement simple. Best type of announcement are those that reside in other websites where you simply provide the link to the website rather than the content. . . Thanks!
And so here are the latest items to share.
Next announcement will probably be: 4/19/19 (It’s a good Friday!)

Cody Heichel is our April speaker. He is a watercolorist who documents his daily surroundings, serving as a visual commentary on the people and structures he encounters. Mood and movement create an atmosphere that pulls the viewer into the scene. He was selected by the Ohio Arts Council for a group show at the Columbus Museum of Art and a Desden residency. https://www.codyheichel.com/about.php

OH, I can’t wait to hear Cody Heichel talk about his work and journey on the 11th.
GET YOUR BEST ART READY FOR the Worthington Arts Festival – June 14, 15 and 16. We will set up on Friday and be open for business on Saturday and Sunday. It will be a beautiful, comfortable (temperature wise) day! There is no entry fee and no commissions to participate, just fun volunteer time.
WORTHINGTON ARTS FESTIVAL sign up will begin at the meeting Thursday night. I have attached some information about the festival, the guidelines for exhibiting and also the responsibilities for participation.
It takes a lot of volunteers to make this event a success, but it is a great way to meet other league members, have some fun, see some great art and SELL SOME ART! Last year we had 20 artists who took part in the show and sold over $2000 worth of art work. I hope we can double our sales this year!
Our tent is only 10′ x 20′, so we have limited space, but hope to include everyone who would like to exhibit. Our comfortable number is 20 artists. So my point is if you wish to be included in the Worthington Arts Festival make sure you are at the meeting. After the meeting we will send out a notice for any spots that are left plus a waiting list.
ENTER TO EXIT: Thresholds and Transformations exhibit at the McConnell main gallery until May 12th. Thanks so very much to the league for your support at the opening. It means the world to me, Marty and Jeanie.

Griswold Center

May Scholarship Dinner – May 9th – 6pm, with dinner at 6:30 followed by presentations to scholars. Art teachers from each of the three Worthington high schools are asked to choose a senior student who is an outstanding artist and who plans on furthering his/her education in an artistic field. Students will bring pieces and talk about their work.
This is a pot luck, with members bringing the sides and desert and WAAL providing pulled chicken from City BBQ.
>>>VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – We need your contributions to the dinner and some volunteers to help set up at 5:30 and take down after dinner. RSVP to VicePresident@WorthingtonAreaArtLeague.com if you are coming. We need a count for the BBQ…and tell Beth what you will do to help.

May – Scholarship Dinner – WAAL Scholorship students from three Worthington high schools will talk about their work.
June – Julia Hamilton is inspired by science, nature, and the universe. She creates pieces using alcohol inks and lighting them on fire. Each piece starts with chaos and, through her process, the beauty and ordered is discovered. Julia’s website
July – Caitlin McGurk, Associate Curator and Assistant Professor at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, will present “Tell Me A Story Where the Bad Girl Wins: Uncovering the Life and Art of New Yorker Cartoonist Barbara Shermund”.
