Hello
Started doing this yesterday but then the great weather got the best of me. . . So before that happens again today, let’s get this done.
Here are a few items to share. Next announcement on or about 6/1/19.

>>>> SCHOLARSHIP DINNER – Thanks to everyone who came, we had a great turn out and wonderful food. Thanks to the set up/take down volunteers and to everyone who brought extra food as we had so may guests this year. The following students were the winners of a $500 scholarship award; Thomas Worthington – Grace Egerton; Worthington Kilburn – Gordan Liu and Worthington Christian – Olivia Howard. These young artists were very impressive, Gordan plans to become and architect, Olivia has brought art to the women serving time at the Marysville Correctional Prison and Grace will be studying at Columbus State and will study stage make up. Congratulations to each of them. And congratulations to their amazing teachers and thanks for the great job they do.

>>>> HELP NEEDED. In order to keep the Art League thriving as a wonderful group of artists we now need to think about next year and finding members to take on various league positions. First open slot is Vice-President, this is a fun job. The VP will arrange for next years programs, Some programs are all ready set, the “Show and Tell” in the fall, the holiday dinner and the scholarship dinner. So that leaves 9 programs to choose. There are many excellent artists who are willing to share their journey and work with the league and we have a budget to pay them. For me this was lots of fun and much easier than I expected. The previous VP had left some suggestion and several members suggested artists they were interested in hearing. Also It made me more aware of the art going around town so I found a couple of programs that way. The VP will then move on up to President which entails running the meeting, making sure the room is rented, organizing the scholarship dinner, finding members to help you or doing it all yourself. I have found it to be a satisfying job and a way to get to know more member.
The second position we need to fill is the Community Arts Coordinator which Howard Van Cleve currently fills. Howard has done a great job locating multiple sites for members displays and has a well oiled machine going. He sends the sign up sheets around at the meetings then sends the reminders for hanging/take down via e-mail
Thirdly we could use some one to help apply for and or chair some additional art shows. Currently we have First Community in 2020 and Mill Run in 2019, – this show already has 2 chairs – but would like for some more shows. Those are jobs that offer the opportunity to meet more members and take place over a short time frame. We usually have 2 members as co-chairs for these events. So maybe you have a friend you would like to share the job with.
Please let me Ruth Ann 614-623-7800 ram.art@hotmail.com know if you are interested or have a recommendation for some one who would be good for one of the jobs Thanks for considering these opportunities!

We would love to flood the historic district with local art and art activities during our “Celebrate Art” Worthington 1st Wednesday on June 5. Please have any local artists contact us who are looking to exhibit or showcase their art live. It’s a mostly outdoor event, with some opportunity to partner with the shops in the district. We can also use the Village Green for activities.
If you are interested please contact her directly as we do not have anyone to coordinate from the League. Here is her info.

>>>> Ohio State Fair >>>
There has been some confusion about fine arts entires into the Ohio State Fair. Some of our members have been thinking that fine arts entries need to be limited to natural materials described in the following special section. Not true! According to Sandy Libertini, Arts Director, ALL TYPES of art are accepted according to the details in the rules. “A Perspective from Nature” is only one special category within the whole show. Last day to enter is 5/29.
- A Perspective from Nature – Celebrating artists’ work inspired by nature. A focus on artists who work in minimally altered natural materials including stone, minerals, wood, botanicals, paper arts, clay and other organic matter.
