>>>> A Message from the Outgoing President
Our last meeting of the 2020-2021 season took place last week We covered quite a bit of material including statements from each member of the Board, an update on our now official tax exempt non-profit status, upcoming exhibit opportunities, the awards presentation from our 2021 Summer Show, and election of officers for our 2021-2022 season. I encourage each of you to review our August meeting minutes at the following link to our website: www.worthingtonareaartleague.com/meeting-minutes/ <www.worthingtonareaartleague.com/meeting-minutes/>
Looking back over the past year, we continued – and added – several benefits to our organization including: • Monthly programming • Excellent guest speakers • Monthly critiques • 5 virtual exhibits: • Artist Virtual Gallery • 2021 WAAL Winter Show • 2021 Scholarship Exhibition • WAAL Winner’s Show: Jane Flewellen • 2021 WAAL Summer Show • Community engagement opportunities • Worthington area exhibit venue opportunities • In-person group shows • Artist Portfolios increased to 25 images • Bi-weekly announcements
These programs would not be possible without the dedication of our Board and Committee members and volunteers. I extend my sincere appreciation to those whose efforts kept us safe, kept us together while we were apart, and kept us creating art. • Matt Anderle • Ana Maria Atwood • Justin Collamore • Katherine Crowley • Tim Crowley • Janet Forbes-Green • Dana Grubbe • Rod Hayslip • Joni Meeker • Ruth Ann Mitchell • Jane Moore • Beth Veldey • Andi Wolfe • Sarah-Jane Workman • Chuck Zelms I would like to thank Jane Moore who has served as our Secretary for several years, and Ana Maria Atwood, who has served as Treasurer for over two decades. Both will be moving on from these positions.
I would especially like to thank Beth Veldey, who over the past few years has served as Vice President, President, and Vice President again. When the COVID crisis began she acted quickly to create an environment where we could continue to meet virtually. She spear-headed incorporating WAAL as a non-profit, and worked to secure a grant to fund the project. She has assisted with the budget, chaired our first virtual gallery exhibit, and scheduled all of our programming this year. WAAL has a bright future ahead and Beth helped to move us in the right direction.
Election of Officers We elected new officers at our August meeting: • Andi Wolfe, President • Sylvia Bowers, Secretary • Beth Veldey, Treasurer As you can see, we are still in need of someone to fill the role of Vice President. Our program for our September meeting will be our annual “Show & Tell”, but the Vice President arranges our programming, and we will need someone who is interested in meeting new people and getting to know area artists to step into this position.
Some exciting opportunities are on the horizon for WAAL and our new officers are poised to lead us into the future. Our non-profit status will allow us to grow in new ways and our presence in this brave new digital work continues to expand. I look forward to all that is to come.
Katherine Crowley, (Lame Duck) Worthington Area Art League

>>>> Update 501(c)(3) Project
As you may recall Beth Veldey has been working on a plan to incorporate the art league and acquire tax exempt status. We had a grant from Worthington Arts Council to do this and engaged an attorney. Here is where we stand: •Articles of Incorporation were approved by the WAAL Board and filed with the state of Ohio by our attorney. •Application for tax-exemption was filed with the IRS. Waiting for approval. •We applied for and received a TIN which is our tax identification number. •Revised Bylaws were reviewed by the Board and our attorney is making some changes. The new Bylaws will be sent to the membership for review and we will vote on acceptance at an upcoming meeting.

>>>> Call for Entry
Dear WAAL
I’m (Jim Glover) chairing a small indoor show at our church scheduled for September 17 through October 2. We would invite any WAAL members who would be interested in showing with us. I’ll include a version of the call for entries below. We’re getting submissions, but really have no idea yet how many entries we’ll receive. Thus, I’m writing to see if we could borrow any available display panels that WAAL might have squirreled away somewhere for those two weeks? Thanks in advance for anything you might be able to loan us!
See attachments for details.
